The Sweatshop Master – A Poem

The Sweatshop Master – A Poem

The Sweatshop Master

A. A. Kamalov

“You should be grateful, leech!

My pockets are empty, because of you.”

Despicable lies, repeatedly uttered

By the millionaire himself,

For nothing could be more satisfying

Than to see his conception slave away

With delusion in mind, constantly ringing:

“Money’s motivation.” But is it?

Always inferior, deprived of

Not cash but care, reduced to abuse

By a vicious, miserly capitalist,

Imposing a convenient inferiority

Upon his accidental creation.

It costs a lot for the upkeep,

The drink and feed and shade

And air, it only makes sense to get

Something in return for it, a profit!

The dollar-sized eyes widen

In hungry expectation for

Cheap labour exploitation.

Subsequently, it was shipped to

A brain factory, to serve the

System with non-stop cycles

Of work, work and work.

Social life? Rest? Such things exist?

No, it must work, day and night

Or else, its penalty: a cut

In that costly lifeline.

It will pay off, eventually.

It’ll leave the factory to

Other factories, toiling more hours.

But as a show of gratitude, wages sent back,

Back to the bastard businessman.

Author’s Afterword:

This poem was inspired by a video about the manufacturing industry I watched during school. I don’t want to comment much because I’d love it if you can come up with your own interpretations of what The Sweatshop Master is all about. Is it literally about child labour? Is it a metaphor for something else? I’d like to know! From what is clear without revealing too much, I don’t tend to view big business very favourably.

That said, I have written this poem quite a while ago and I am having a little trouble with coming up with new ideas to write about. I tend to write out of impulse, when I feel really upset, triggered or angry, but not so much when I am just calmly sitting while sipping a hot mug of coffee. Maybe I should read more genres of poems first before I continue writing any more. If you could suggest me any hot topics you’d like to see me write, tell me in the comments below and I’ll definitely consider it. Thanks for your support!

It’s Time to Play Catch-Up Once More

Kbrs

A green field in the Cypriot countryside

Good day and welcome back to my humble blog.

Yes, I have realised that today is the 31st of March. This is the first and last post for this month. For the sake of not letting one whole month fly by without a post, I decided to make sure to have something typed up and served for this month and to explain a little about my disappearance.

As I have mentioned in my previous post in February, I am a busy man. I have many commitments in school and life here and I can’t afford to forgo these commitments for the sake of this blog. I have set my priorities, and my blog isn’t something that will directly determine my future, such as whether I will be entering the university of my choice, or whether I’ll be getting better grades. From now on, if my life here has become just too busy, you will have to look forward to at least one post for that month. Any less than that would mean something very unusual has happened to me, such as a serious illness, a prolonged breakdown of all internet services in Egypt, etc.

I am pleased to announce that I could now add a new country to the list of countries I have visited over in my lifetime: CYPRUS! Yes, I have mentioned this in my previous post, and I have so much to tell you all about how this trip went. It was a significant achievement in my life, because it was also the first time I have ever undertaken a school trip which involved travelling abroad. I have photos, a video and even made a special song to memorialise the whole experience for the trip, which hopefully, In-Sha-Allah, will be shown in a special post in the coming days.

In addition to that, before the week of the Cyprus trip, my whole family went to Antalya, Turkey for a short but amazing holiday. There I took far more photos than in Cyprus (I wasn’t able to use my phone in Cyprus to take photos as much). I will also explain the whole trip in another upcoming post which I will post in a few days.

I have to work much harder to catch up with all the time I had been away. Yes, the two travel events made it tough to update anything but the school that came after the holiday and trips is worse. Here is a list of all the things I must complete by the end of April which should be in my blog:

Please, please, please, I really need encouragement from you all as readers because, frankly speaking, you’re the fuel for my motivation. I want to continue writing but I need reminders and pestering from you guys so that I could meet my goals in blogging. If you notice that I am not keeping up to my promises and plans, please comment, personal message, give a shoutout through social media, whatever, I don’t mind. I will be fully appreactive of any response I get from those who come by here.

Starting the end of this week spring break will start at my school, so I will of course devote as much free time as possible with making updates on my blog and to the other blog in Blogger, which I have not given enough attention to. In addition, I will try to be more active among the WordPress community by reading more other people’s blogs, blogs of people I subscribe to, liking blogs, reblogging, updating any outdated info and other sort of things bloggers are supposed to do. Until then, I have to focus on the last few days of Arbeit which I can’t avoid. Thank you for reading!

The February of Silence – A Consequence of A Busy Weekly Routine

The February of Silence – A Consequence of A Busy Weekly Routine

Peace be upon y’all!

I know I have seem to gone off the radar for several weeks by now. If you are wondering if it was due to a prolonged illness, it wasn’t truly the case. That time, I wrote that I was suffering from a flu that left me weakened over the week. However, the week after that, I mostly recovered and I was back on my feet as usual. Of course, by then I wanted to write more for this blog, however I really felt that this month has been one of the busiest months I ever went through in my IB course. In this post, I will be giving a rundown of what I do each week nowadays and my plans for the end of this month.

Before going further, allow me to announce something really important: I will be travelling to Turkey tomorrow! Currently I am having a school midterm holiday for five days (this Friday until next week Wednesday) so to make the most of this short period, we decided to spend time in one of Turkey’s most beautiful coastal resort cities: Antalya! The Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatile Blogger Award

It has been a little more than about a week since I first switched sides to join the WordPress family. All week I’ve been spending my free time fiddling around with my blog’s appearance and settings to make it more reader-friendly. I hope you like the way it looks now, because it’s likely that it’ll stay that way.

Last week on, my best blogging friend ASpaceWithin nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award! Thank you so much! I never expected to be nominated so soon :P. I never got nominated before in my old Blogger blog, so I was a little clueless at first on what to do. I had a read of ASpaceWithin’s post about her award after her nomination, but I felt like it wasn’t enough to understand what this blog really means. Continue reading

Making the Move to WordPress (and leaving Blogger)

Making the Move to WordPress (and leaving Blogger)

Welcome WordPress, Goodbye Google Blogger

It’s a new year, a perfect time to make a fresh start. For me, I’d like to make that fresh start by making the move that will forever change the (short) history of my blogging career: switching to WordPress.

For those who are reading this from my WordPress site for the first time, allow me to give a bit of explanation. Before starting up this site here, I had this exact same blog hosted in Blogger. The blog has the same name “Аку Ўартаўан Рәмажа – I Am A Teenage Reporter” with a slightly different address: http://iamateenagereporter.blogspot.com. This blog has been running for over a year now. When I transferred from Blogger to WordPress, I migrated almost all of my blog content without any changes. All posts, images and comments I have made previously on the Blogger site are retained in this one. As a result, it may seem like this WordPress blog is over a year old, but it’s not.

For those who are reading this from Blogger site, I have written and posted this simultaneously on both sites. I am still posting here because a lot of traffic still come here anyway and that my WordPress blog is relatively new. FYI my new WordPress blog is at this address: http://iamateenagereprter.wordpress.com. It is the same blog with the same content, just with a different design theme and address. Why am I making the move? I will explain down below…
